That's because on the SAVE plan, you won't be charged for interest that exceeds your minimum monthly payment. Individuals who earn $32,800 a year or less qualify for a $0 monthly payment, so any interest that accrues will not be charged. Similarly, if your monthly payment is $30, but $50 in interest accrues in a month, you won't be charged the additional $20. Borrowers who don't qualify for a $0 monthly payment can still save around $1,000 a year on the SAVE plan, according to the Department of Education.

Markets hit the skids on Wednesday after Fitch Ratings downgraded its rating on U.S. debt to AA+ on Tuesday evening — one notch below the agency's highest rating of AAA. "The repeated debt-limit political standoffs and last-minute resolutions have eroded confidence in fiscal management," the rating firm said in a press release. In historical context, though, this week's downgrade is less of a big deal than it seems, experts say. the rating agency dinged Uncle Sam's once perfect credit rating. But total revenues fell a little less than expected, at 4%, mostly due to a 12% decline in Windows OEM revenue and a 18% drop in devices revenue growth. He said Netflix is transforming its business model into a streaming service with a cheaper subscription plan that includes advertisements.
